  • Gender-Based Harassment
Conduct based on a person’s gender that is unwelcome and has the purpose or effect of violating that person’s dignity, or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment.
  • Sexual Harassment
Any kind of sexual behavior that is unwelcome and has the purpose or effect of violating a person’s dignity, particularly when the conduct creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or offensive environment. Such conduct may be verbal, non-verbal, symbolic, and/or physical.
  • Violence
Any behavior that causes, or could cause, physical or psychological harm or suffering to the person targeted, including threats of such behavior, coercion, or arbitrary deprivation of freedom.
Main Objective
The aim of this policy and response plan against bullying, sexual and gender-based harassment, and violence is to prevent such behavior in the workplace and ensure that resources are available if someone believes they have been subjected to it. The definitions in this policy and response plan are based on current labor protection legislation and Regulation No. 1009/2015 on measures against bullying, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, and violence in the workplace.
Rights and Responsibilities
An employee who has experienced or has knowledge of bullying, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, and/or violence in the workplace must inform their supervisor, safety representative or the HR director.

All parties are obligated to respond as quickly as possible when a report of bullying, harassment, or other inappropriate behavior towards staff is received. All such cases are investigated, and it is the responsibility of management to ensure this. Full confidentiality will always be maintained in handling cases and data, to protect the interests of all involved.

Employees must uphold the values of Sólar ehf — respect, positivity and professionalism — in their daily work and demonstrate ethical responsibility in interactions with colleagues.

Employees are prohibited from bullying, harassing, or using violence against colleagues.

All staff must contribute to creating a positive work environment that promotes wellbeing at work and is free from bullying, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment and/or violence.

New employees will be introduced to the company’s policy and response plan to prevent bullying, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, and violence at the start of their employment. The policy and plan are also reviewed regularly at staff meetings. Bullying, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, and violence are not tolerated at Sólar. If a supervisor becomes aware of such behavior, they must act in accordance with the response plan.

The company will take action against employees who engage in bullying, harassment, or violence, such as issuing a warning or termination of employment. If the perpetrator remains in employment, they will be held accountable and supported to change their behavior. The victim’s need for support will be assessed and support provided as required.

If an assessment concludes that bullying, harassment, or violence has not occurred in the workplace, measures will still be taken to address the circumstances that were complained about or reported, if they still exist, and to prevent such conditions from arising again.
This policy takes effect from April 2023 and was approved by the executive management.
